He laughed at his joke and looked back at the hourglasses.
"More like day-dreaming of the day we beat ANYONE," he chuckled. "Although I suppose I'm partly to blame for that, grades were never my strong suit," he admitted. THAT was going to change this year, though. That was for sure. "How was your summer?" he asked, making polite conversation. Summer activities would be the topic of conversation for a good week or so, at least. As it always was.
Alex's attention was turned to a newcomer, a Slytherin girl whom he had never met before but seemed to know August. He smiled and nodded. "Yeah, they'll be prettier with some points in them, though. At least there aren't any negatives this term...for now," he added with a chuckle.
Seriously. This had to be a record or something. Going this long without losing any points.
Harlow smiled at the taller boy. Hmm, maybe one day she would actually be tall enough to look someone in the eye.
"Oh yes the emeralds are always so sparkly and shiny." she commented. Of course she would be partile to the emeralds.
"I'm Harlow and whom might you be?" she asked sticking out her tiny hand for him to shake.

"Harlow, good to see you again." they hadn't seen each other much last term but they had met before and August thought she was cool enough. He waved at her as she joined them and he listened to her as she got in on the joking. "Now, now Harlow don't put your money on Slytherin going for a three-pete this term again, us Lions are ready for a fight I can tell ya that." he said with a grin.
"Aww don't say that, you Puffs have just as much of a chance of winning as we do." he said kindly. He had the feeling from the way his friend was talking that the Hufflepuff house didn't quite get the amount of kind words as the put out, which was sort of sad to Auggie.
Summer discussions again, yay! "Um mine was good. I spent most of it at home in Manchester with my family. I hung out with Paulie, Tori Bunbury, and Taryn Hayden once over the break too." he had gotten a girlfriend out of that meeting but that wasn't really needed to be discussed just yet. "How was everything for you this summer?" he asked, a bit curious as to what life was with Sierra as a sister. He wondered if they even had seen each other, Alex had told him last term that they didn't really live together.
Harlow threw her thin arms around August's legs and hugged him tight.
"Its always good to see you." she told him with a bob of her poofy head. She pursed her lips,
"Well Slytherin is always up for the challenge I'm sure." She certainly was going to put in a better showing with her homework than she did last term.
