Although nervous, Maya couldn't help but gasp in awe of the place, from the outside the castle had looked magnificent but the great hall was something else. The ceiling looked exactly like the sky outside, a deep dark blue, with the clouds still visible. Hundreds of candles floated amongst the rafters lighting the room which incidently was huge! Maya heard her name being called, just as she had noticed quite how many people they were in the room, well over 1000. As she stepped forward and put on the sorting hat she could feel all eyes on her.

She knew little about each of the houses at Hogwarts apart from what she had read and snippets of conversation overheard from other students. But from what she could gather, she thought she'd most likely be Hufflepuff. "Hufflepuff," the hat questioned, "Are you sure? Hmmm, no, no you're...

Maya, grinned as she took of the hat, much of her nervousness gone. With that she walked over to the gryffindor table to meet her new housemates.
