He wasn't that outgoing was he? "Fifth year, that's a great year..." she began and then paused.
Emma was about to open her mouth when Cornelius came over and introduced himself. WOAH. His excitement and enthusiasm nearly knocked her off her feet. A smile instantly appeared on her face. A genuine smile. And then he was already shaking her hand. Nice and polite! Bonus points there. Emma could already tell that Cornelius probably would have a trail of first years following him. "Wonderful to meet you to Cornelius," she chuckled and then the boy zipped back over to no-named boy's side. Merlin. Both fifth years? She'd already met a lot of fifth years already. They were making her feel ancient. Or maybe that was because her boyfriend and a lot of her friends had graduated? Nevertheless, she was only one year older than both of them and could not understand how they made her feel so very old. Turning to Edric, she held her hand out towards him so he could shake it, "And nice to meet you too. Even though I don't know your name," she said, cheerfully. These two made an interesting pair.
"Well. Welcome to Hogwarts! Or at least- the Hogwarts Express. If you need any help or have any questions, I'd love to help you out there. So do you guys know what house your in already or want to be sorted in?" she asked, curiously. For some kids didn't know what house they were in and others had already been sorted.

And then Cornelius began to freak out.
Involuntarily, Edric jumped in his seat and turned to the door wide-eyed, assuming for a moment there that the train had just been broken into by serial killers or something - but nah, it was just Cornelius being Cornelius. Y'know, giving Edric heart attacks. The usual.
As the boy went on about secrets and stuff, Edric merely raised an eyebrow at him. And then Cornelius went on to explain his excitement - he was new too, and was also starting his fifth year.
Edric stared at him blankly for a good ten seconds before his face suddenly transformed, his dark eyebrows rising and his lips widening to the largest - but not brightest - of smiles. "Really?" he began. "You don't say? What a coincidence! Who would have thought!" he continued, tones dripping sarcasm as he mocked the other boy's excitement. "Golly gee, let's see what other great wonderful things we've got in common!" He grinned, mouth open wide in the largest of smiles, before ending the act abruptly and putting a serious face back on.
Seriously.
It was NOT that big of a deal, this kid was being ridiculous.
Thoughhhhhhhh, it might be true that Edric felt a LITTLE, TINY, MICROSCOPIC bit better knowing that he wasn't alone in starting a new year at a new school full of strangers.
Of course, though, he'd never admit to that. Cornelius must NEVER find out he was a source of comfort to Edric Barlow for 15 whole seconds.
And then the Emma character was offering Edric her hand and inquiring about his name. Edric merely stared at her for a moment before, much against his will, he shook the girl's hand. "I'm Edric," he said simply. Then he just waited for them to go ahead and get it wrong. About 98% of the people he'd met in his 15 years of life ALWAYS got it wrong and called him 'Eric'.
Edric listened as Emma then pretty much assigned herself the job of tour guide before going on to ask what Houses they were in. "Oh, I do," started Edric, "Cornie here, though, wants to know if the houses come furnished," he explained.
Of course, though, Edric was already familiar with the House system and Hogwarts and all that jazz, but he wasn't going to waste his time trying to explain it to the other boy, so he figured he might hand that chore over to blondie over there, who looked ever so eager to help.
Cornelius seemed to be immune to Edric's form of sarcasm, his caramel-colored eyes lighting up as the boy next to him seemed to beam with what was, unfortunately, fake excitement. He believed this enthusiasm act for a while, and only truly realized Edric was mocking him as the 'golly gee's started being thrown around. The smile disappeared from his face, and for a moment there, it looked as though Cornelius was honestly angry with the other 5th year. But then, very suddenly as though he couldn't hold it anymore, he let out a loud chuckle, and shoved his arm once more,
"Sorry mate, I can't do a very good impression of you," he admitted in reference to his expression just moments before. Apparently Cornelius had taken Edric's over-excited mocking as a sincere impression of himself, and in turn had tried his best to do an impression of Edric; a sour angry face.
"You're funny, I can appreciate a funny person," Cornelius informed him, flashing him a grin from ear-to-ear before turning his attention to Emma who was currently introducing herself to the boy at his side. And then, as though getting a name from the sour-faced boy was a competition with a grand prize, Cornelius's jaw dropped once more as he finally admitted his name; Edric.
EDRIC!
And then, as though the universe was ironically doing the direct opposite of Edric's own fear, Cornelius didn't forget the 'd' in his name, but rather seemed to enjoy the 'd' as the best part, and exclaimed:
"EDDY!"
Obviously pleased with his new nickname for the boy at his side, Cornelius was still grinning until he received an unfortunate nickname in return.
"Cornie!?" he nearly squeaked in response, eyes widening for a moment before he listened to the rest of Edric's statement to Emma. He was distracted from his nickname with this, and looked up at Emma as though she held all of the answers in the world. "
You know things?" he let out in amazement as though he was asking if she had a mystical key to some unknown world.
And then, registering that Edric had just said he knew things as well, Cornelius turned back to the boy at his side with a look of betrayal.
"You know things!?" he repeated his last statement, though it was now clouded with accusation.
"Tsk, tsk Eddy, this wounds me deeply," he muttered jokingly. And even if he wasn't joking, it would've been incredibly difficult to take him seriously since he was now leaning over Edric obnoxiously in order to grab that crumpled piece of parchment he had left in his seat.
In the next moment he was sitting up straight, parchment in hand, his light brown eyes gazing up at Emma in wonder.
"Okay. Yes, Eddy's right. I'm very confused," he began, glancing down at his parchment before returning his eyes to her own.
"First, I know that I'm in some 'house' called Ravvieclaw or something of the sort. What exactly is a 'house'? Do we build our own? And yes, I would like to know if they are furnished!" He began to ramble a bit through all of his questions, but each held a level of importance to the 5th year,
"Second, how are these houses set up? Does every student have their own? Where are all of them kept? Do I get a mailbox?" He rose his eyebrows at the both of them as though daring them to not see the importance of a mailbox, before continuing.
"Lastly, are you currently in a committed relationship, and, if not, are you interested in slightly younger men?" He asked this completely unrelated question so smoothly and without pause, that it might've taken a moment for one to realize that he wasn't still going on about houses and such.
"You know what, strike that. Where would you place yourself on a 'cougar scale', in terms of your affection for someone, let's say, a year younger than yourself? 1, of course being that you're completely attracted to older men, and 10, of course being that you're solely attracted to those that are a year younger than yourself."
Cornelius flashed her a friendly grin.
