She looked at him, "You think dark arts stuff is cool?" Harlow didn't think dark arts stuff was cool. She wanted to stay as far away from that stuff as she could. "Why were you in Knockturn Alley?" Charles was sounding more and more like a person she didn't want to hang around with much longer. Or maybe he just thought toeing that line was a thrill or something. Harlow's brothers certainly like doing things they knew were wrong just for the thrill of it. Harlow preferred to stay out of trouble.
Harlow pursed her lips together as he spoke. "Well I have to say my life is a bit more how should I say. Not exciting, but I guess I have a little more to my life than a few words." she told him. "I was born in Syria during my cousins wedding. That's why my middle name is Syria. I've got seven brothers and sisters and my dad is the youngest of 13 kids. He has 12 sisters. I've had two children's books published and I want to be a famous author. When I was a baby I was a model for like nappies and bottles and things. I'm 12 year old and I grew a whole quater of an inch this summer. So I'm 4 foot and 1/4." That was her life in a very small nutshell.
Right a Quidditch broom. That just might work. Hmmm. "Wouldn't dream of it" Nope he wouldn't dream of it he'd make it a reality. Now if he could get that bet doubled he'd be in business.
Hearing her question he shrugged, "Yeah it's cool. He taught me some pretty wicked stuff. Nothing bad just...not exactly allowed. Plus the guy was brilliant." He grinned and then raised an eyebrow as she asked him why he was in Knockturn Alley. "Oh a friend of mine wanted to go exploring. Said her father never let her down there so I was going to protect her." Well...he kind of talked her into it but that wasn't the point. She'd enjoyed every minute of it. Except for him getting into it with the wizard. Wasn't his fault the blundering oaf was mean.
Charles listened as she told her story and nodded, "Biiiiiiiiiiiig family." People had that many kids? Bloody hell. And her accomplishments...now he felt kind of out of place. Here he was poor and fatherless. Maybe he could sink into the seat and be invisible. "That's...quite a lot for how young you are." Talk about outmatched. Why was it all the people he met came from money? He always felt the odd man out.
