It was rewarding. "I'm not rude or mean. I'm just me," he explained with a shrug. "What am I supposed to do? Offer you my candy and lend you my book?" Sheesh. Seriously, what did people expect of him to be considered 'nice'? In his opinion, they asked for too much.
"If what you wanted was candy, then all you had to do was ask," he said, rummaging through his coat until he pulled out a few bags of sour gummy worms and sour-sweet gummy bears. As a half-blood, he preferred muggle candy. Magical candy always surprised him with the most disgusting tastes, so he learned not to trust it.
Surely what the girl wanted was candy, right? After all, she was like… what, six? Seven? Candy's what all children want, isn't it? "And what if I am calling you out?" she asked him. "What are you gonna do about it? Call my mother?" she asked him. "Why would I want candy. I'm not four. I'm eleven." Geez this boy was not a people person. How did he expect to make any friends? "Why would I want that stupid book." she told him. "You really need to stop being such a grouch." she told him. "You should be lucky that you're alive." "I don't want your candy."
