Harry Potter and Shrek played a massive part in boosting cinema visits in the UK this year.
The second instalment of the green ogre's adventures and Prisoner Of Azkaban were the two top money-spinners at the British box office.
They helped visitor numbers top 117m - which was 10% up on 2003, when there was a 5% slump on the previous year.
The figures from the UK Film Council showed that the most cinema visits were in London, followed by the Midlands.
Spider-Man 2 and King Arthur were also among the biggest movies in the UK last year.
Popular "Cinema-going remains one of the most popular forms of entertainment in this country," said a Film Council spokesman.
