When Sierra finally glanced up from her sandwich, she happened to noticed that Kennedy was now glancing down at his sandwich. Her eyebrows narrowed inward and she tilted her head just a little to try and see what he was doing. It didn't look like he was simply eating. "Are you blushing?" she asked. "...nevermind," she said, and just because she didn't know what else to do, she turned around and snatched a brownie up off the table. It was a good thing there was a food table nearby. It was a good distraction for moments like, ...well, that one. Then he was asking about playing Quidditch on your own, which confused Sierra a little. How had the topic changed to that? Oh, ...right. "Well, some people practice in their own back yard with their brothers and sisters," she explained. "I've never done it, but...I don't know. It was just a question." She shrugged. Maybe it didn't make any sense. She didn't know.
"Fifteen, ...right. Well, I'll be fifteen my next birthday," she said, happy for another change of topic.
Kennedy looked up and blinked several times. Did she just ask that? Couldn't she have ignored it like most people did.
"I uh, what?" he said, fumbling with his cup. He set it down before he dropped it. He didn't do well when he was nervous, and people noticing him blush --especially pointing it out-- made him extra nervous.
"No...It's just, um...warm in here," he said, tugging at his shirt collar. Then she continued talking. Without thinking, he picked up his cup and took a large sip.
Yeah, his mouth was too busy to talk. He was relieved when she skipped over to his topic. Phew.
"I don't have siblings," he said, setting the cup down again. Was she changing the topic? Yes. Thank goodness.
"That's great..." he said, but stopped when Harlow approached them. Woohoo for interruptions!

She darted over and stopped short when she saw it was Sierra. She stared up at the older girl and thought about cutting tail and running. Any time she had run into Sierra the girl was terrorizing the neighborhood.
Harlow sidled closer to Kennedy. "Hey," she said making sure Kennedy was between her and Sierra.
"Hi, Harlow," he smiled. For a minute there Kennedy was sure the young snake was hiding from Sierra. Maybe she pointed out her blushing too? He looked from one girl to the other. Or maybe they didn't know each other?
"Sierra this is Harlow, Harlow this is Sierra," he introduced both of them.
