Flying wasn't her strength, neither were Ancient Runes...but that was an entirely different matter, and Kurumi had been lucky to have survived her first season without a disaster. "I...never knew that you thought of Quidditch as our thing...besides, you have Gideon on the pitch now. Why would you need me?" He was a better flyer than her, at least during matches. For some reason Kurumi did well in practice sessions, perhaps because of the familiarity of her teammates, but when it came to matches she fell flat. The team didn't need someone like that. They needed someone reliable.
"Giving up and realizing your limitations are two entirely different things, Selina," Kurumi said, her voice still steady. "I've never stopped being afraid. Before every match I broke out in rashes and scratched. Hair changed color a few times too, but I was able to compose myself a bit." Selina's comment about failure sort of hit her the wrong way. Kurumi knew that people failed. She had been a failure herself many times socially and in other parts of her life which is why she put so much effort into her studies, to make up for those failures. "And this might be hard for you to grasp, Selina, but some people just do not get the same joy out of Quidditch that you do." Kurumi coughed a few more times after saying that, and she had to cover her mouth for a little bit so as not to spew grossness into the air. "It's been fun, and I am glad that I've played...but it's time for me to step aside and let better lions onto the pitch. I'll still come to all the matches and cheer the team on of course."
Selina crossed her arms and threw her hair up into a pony tail. This was not something she wanted to talk about. It was all a tad too much for Selina. So much was changing so quickly. Everyone was getting older and every aspect of her life was shifting. The once mostly care free person she was had been limited by the prospects of being older. She had to take on responsibility. There were new types of relationships that she was stepping into that she had never stepped into before. A lot was different now. But the one thing that had always been constant for her was Quidditch. And Kurumi had been a part of that consistency. Now she was leaving. So many changes.
From Selina's sitting position on her bed she smacked her thighs lightly and stood up,
"Alright then. Fine. I can't make you do anything you don't wanna do. Never have been able to do that with you. So you have fun with OWLs and all of that jazz. But maybe you shouldn't come to the games if I make the team next year. You know, you do have a lot of stuff you have to do and all that jazz..."
Selina leaned over to her bedside table and grabbed her goggles for the pitch,
"I'll see you later." Maybe Gideon was right. Maybe when the going gets tough Selina got going...
