Veronica drew in a sharp breath. She loathed that attitude of his, and her natural instinct wanted to strike back. She'd never stand a chance, though. That didn't stop her from hissing angrily. She didn't say anything to him, but rather flicked her wand, causing a silvery, misty wild cat to pounce from it. It lunged forward, paused, and then dashed from the room.

"No need to worry yourself," she finally said. "I'm confident I'll be just fine." With her back still turned, she raised her eyebrows at the mention of her sister. "Hmm. My sister." Though she made no comment as to whether or not she knew the man.

His next words caused her to draw in yet another sharp breath. "You're so sure I want to play in your den," she pointed out, "but men are worthless pigs. I have no interest in involving myself with any of them anytime soon." This, of course, translated to 'I've been burned by one, and I'm still feeling wounded'.
