...she...what?

Why that face? He was not imagining or seeing things right? Because right now she looked everything else but happy. The expectant and hopeful eyes of the Gryffindor boy widened some as she took a step back. And after the second step she took away from him, he did not need further words or moves to understand what was going to happen:

She did not want him.

Suddenly, his heart stopped and a some heavy pressure on his chest replaced it. This was bigger than disappointment. It felt like his path was darkened for good. When he heard the silent 'I can't', Josh closed the box in his hand and looked down.

He wanted to ask why and say even more yet no words made its way out his mouth. Why could it be anyway? Maybe she thought she loved him yet obviously it was not really the way he did so. Therefore, his fears were right; the idea that he had been forcing her into this relationship was true.

Unable to look back at the girl's face, the Gryffindor turned away and sat back on the blanket. Then his back turned to the girl, he let out a deeply sad sigh and...just stared at the darkness.

Then he was not going to force her into anything anymore.

With her shaky breathes, Evelyn stared at Josh, trying to persuade herself to look elsewhere, but as he turned away from her and just sat there, she couldn't tear her gaze away. The deep ache in her heart and pit of her stomach grew after she heard the sigh from him and the silence that followed. Wringing her hands together, she took a small step forward to him, but that was as close as she got for now.

Surely...surely he understood, right? She still loved him. Very much so. That didn't change, no matter what. And marriage...

She wasn't ready for it.

Opening her mouth to say something, apparently her words were still caught in her throat, for nothing came out. Nothing but a tear from her eyes falling down her cheek that is. With another shaky breath, she mustered up the nerve to break the silence and at least say something. No matter how quiet her voice was...

"Josh?"
