The woman’s cloak swished as she moved to a portrait near them, it was of her. The label under neither it clearly said her name and her title.
She shook her head in disapproval of Mason, he was just adding to her stress level – which is already very high. Softly but still audible she spoke to herself, ”I swear I have too much going on. This is absurd.” Medea pinched the bridge of her nose and continued at a normal volume, ”Between work and getting married tomorrow I’ve just got too much going on.” Realizing she was spilling her personal life and wasting time she stopped talking. ”Oh never mind! Just get all these dusted before I speak to the Minister regarding your lack of compliance.” And with that the woman turned, and started down the hall.
Mason refrained from rolling his eyes. That wouldn't help in this situation. Though, it was kind of funny that she called him sir. He hadn't heard that one before, especially not from her. Did he realize who he was talking to? "Oh, for once in your life, can you please pretend like you're not embarrassed to talk to me at work? I don't care that we're not together anymore, I deserve better than this." His voice was still bitter. Even when they were dating, Medea refused to look at him for more than a second at work. She held a high position in the Ministry. It would be embarrassing for anyone to find out she was in love with a Maintenance worker.
Moving to the next portrait, he heard her mumbling something but he chose to ignore it. He didn't know exactly why he was so mad at her. He blamed it on the fact that she completely broke his heart and moved on so fast. But really, she had every right to do what she did. Mason couldn't make her happy so she found someone else that could. But he still wanted to be mad.
What she said next, took a moment to register into Mason's brain. Between work and getting married tomorrow, I've just got too much going on. He whipped his head towards Medea with wide eyes and completely ignored what she said about the Minister something-or-other. "Married?!"
When she started down the hall, Mason went after her and grabbed her arm to stop her. "You're marrying that bloke?!" He said a little loudly.
