She thought she was an average guitar player...she was good at playing songs but she wasn't skilled at making songs yet. Guitar was a fun instrument way more interesting than piano..or at least Ness thought so. "I'll try be good." she winked at Joanna

So Jo'd rather stay in Hogwarts than see her family, Jo probably had her reasons and Ness decided to stay out of it. In any case, Hogwarts was sorta fun for the holidays there was always some sort of entertainment going on at Hogwarts over the holidays. "At least the holiday here is usually fun." she commented remembering last year when she had decided to stay in Hogwarts.
