He was stupid enough to glance at the boy for a moment, too. Sighing audibly he shook his head. "Don't look at me like that. You can train under someone else and be less likely to care as much what their opinions are... you are less likely to back talk them. It's for your own good. I promise you," he said in a gruff voice as he slid a bit in the mess which was his own doing. Fantastic. Good thing the kid was there to help him along...

Reaching the door at last he gently pulled his arm out of Sabel's grasp and patted his arm for a moment. "I clearly am losing my touch... you are better off in someone else's hands, kid."
Sabel didn't agree. He would never agree. And he found himself shaking his head. His hold tightened on Damien when he slipped and he made sure the man was stable before even thinking to allow his hand to withdraw.

"I'm......I'm sorry, Damien." Truthfully, honestly and unbearably sorry. He felt like such a disappointment, such a let down in Damien's eyes. In everyone's eyes. His eyes fell to his wands still held in his hands and after a moment he pressed them into Damien's hands. "Give....give me one more chance Damien. Please...."

Maybe one day he could explain why he had spoken how he did to Damien. Maybe one day they could laugh about it. But right now, he was trying to hold on. Hold onto the one thing that was stable, the one thing that was normal. One of the only things left that mattered. Not his apprenticeship. Not his training. But his relationship with Damien. The man was his mentor, his teacher, his adopted father. He didn't want to loose that. Ever.
