In fact, she just went back to trying to watch him, still rather impressed by his ability. Being an artist just seemed to fit with what she'd already decided about him, just as much as she could acknowledge that drawing was not an artistic talent she had herself. She could act, dance, and even sing a bit, but visual arts kind of escaped her. Then he spoke again, and she nodded. "I agree. A bit of socialization is fine, but having conversations and not paying attention to the lesson is rude," she replied. Of course, so was just making inane comments to the professors, especially since it seemed most of the professors here weren't really open to that sort of thing.

She didn't miss the fact that her simple use of French, even for only one or two words, had interrupted his stride in the arguments, and that amused her a little. Advantages were always useful in debates, but even so , she'd stick with mostly English for his sake. No matter how entertaining the thought of confusing him entirely was. She couldn't help but insert a little bit into the discussion again anyhow. "C'est très vrai," she responded with a grin, "There is always a place for divergence, though. Not everyone has to have every single trait attributed to a House, correct? Therefore, it's both complcated and also something that a person shouldn't try to live up to. Everyone's different, after all." He seemed to have gotten away from himself some, at least when it came to their topic. That only made it more likely she'd win, which was always better than the alternative.
Wait.. weren't they supposed to be studying? That thought had only seemed to come up now as he had finished off the picture which evidently was more important than anything else at the moment. Matt finally set down his quill and pushed the parchment towards the center of the table, the phoenix had always been a challenge for him to try to draw but at least this time it turned out somewhat better than he had expected when he first started on it. "Not only rude, but it's easy to get distracted from what you're actually supposed to be doing when you're talking to someone about something that clearly could wait until after class." For some reason, a bit of attitude started appearing in his tone of voice and he wasn't exactly sure where that was coming from; it possibly could have been the fact that this whole idea reminded him of what Raven had mentioned a couple years ago when he was first sorted into Slytherin.

Even though her point was not only correct and quite brilliant, it seemed to make him reconsider exactly what to say next since he wasn't about to admit defeat; no that was never an option at all. But, that didn't mean that he didn't have a trick up his sleeve that could turn the tables on this. Are you sure that's a good idea? Yes I know that's very Slytherin of you but I mean.. really. There are other ways to make a good point here. "Hmm, true." He wasn't even sure now what else to say, all logic had escaped from his brain now so this definitely wasn't about to end well at all. "So.. I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime." And of course he said it, it might not have gone with the other points but at least he ended up saying something that made sense.
