Spike looked round furtively, before tip-toeing past the lounge and up the stairs. He carefully carried a cardboard box with holes in. Spotting him through the banisters, Indy stood out in front of him, hands on hips.
“What’s in there?”
“Shhhh!” Spike warned. “It’s none of your business.”
“It is if you don’t want Mummy to know.”
He rolled his eyes. “Fine. It’s my new pet.”
Indy wrinkled her face. “Another one?”
Spike grinned. “I traded with John for it. Good deal it was.”
“And what did you get?”
“A tarantula.” He opened the box. “Meet Matilda.”
Indy ran. Fast.
