As she told him about the painting he was quiet. When she mentioned her dad he quickly looked away... but she didn't get emotional or anything so he looked back at her. "I didn't know that," he mused with a small laugh. That she was artsy, that is. He knew that she could play the piano, but that was about it. It was sort of fun to learn small new things about her that he didn't know.
With a smile, he nodded to her and set the painting carefully on a table near them. "I've missed being there," he told her, squeezing her hand, "And now, it's sorta here." Talk about cheesy.
It certainly made Ellie feel better seeing how much Dallin liked her gifts. She really wanted to make this a fantastic day for him, since he was so special to her. She wanted him to have a great birthday. And now that it seemed like he was, Ellie started to calm down and feel less nervous. Because she really had nothing to worry about.
While she was speaking, Ellie noticed Dallin look away when she started talking about her dad. She almost smiled though, because she knew what he was thinking. Last time she had talked about her dad... Well, she didn't really talk, it was more of her crying on his shoulder for several minutes. But it was different this time and she wasn't going to cry. Ellie shrugged a little at his comment.
"Yeah, I guess I never really brought it up. Probably because I haven't done anything like this in a long time." She said with another shrug. Telling him this made Ellie wonder what little things Dallin did at home to keep himself busy. Or maybe he just surfed all the time, who knew?
When Dallin told her that he missed being there, she smiled a little.
"I missed you being there too." She said with a light laugh. Sure it was only two weeks that he wasn't there, but the house was quiet again once he left.
"I'm glad you like it. It means a lot." Ellie told him, rather quietly for some reason.
"But we've got one more surprise! And then we can pig out on cake and stuff." She said beaming. Maybe Dallin could guess what it was, since it was kind of random in the room. Y'know, there was balloons, streamers, cake, sweets and junk food, and... a piano. Heheh.
