He watched curiously as she walked off. When she picked up the box, his eyebrows raised. "What's that?" he asked although he knew she wasn't going to answer him. He accepted the box from her, weighing it in his hands for a moment before starting to take off the paper. Once he could see the painting, his jaw dropped. He immediately recognized the view; he'd been seeing it all summer. It was the coastline at Ellie's house. Ellie's ocean. With the cliffs and the blue water. "You did this?" He looked at her for a split second before going back to the painting. "Merlin's beard." It was good. Very good. Incredible.
"I love it, Ellie," he told her, keeping his eyes on the painting for a few more seconds before turning his gaze back to his girlfriend.
Watching him look around the room again, Ellie smiled. He loved it. That made her feel ten times happier.
And he thought it was
awesome. Oh, Americans and their usage of words. How adorable. Gently squeezing his hand, Ellie grinned.
"I'm glad you think so."
Ellie was wringing her hands a little bit while Dallin opened the present. Again, she was nervous. She hadn't painted in a long time. And summer was quite chaotic. She finally had time once Dallin had left her house, so she took the opportunity to paint her favorite view. When Ellie saw his reaction, she bit her lip and grinned. His jaw dropping was a good thing right? Ellie nodded.
"I painted it after you left." Nod.
"My mum taught me to paint when I was young. She was so good, but she stopped once my dad died... I don't know why. But she gave me her supplies and ever since then I've been kind of an artsy person." She even drew Braeden a self-portrait for his birthday two years ago. Ellie shrugged. She didn't really know if Dallin wanted to hear all that, but oh well.
And he loved that too? Ellie blushed a little bit when he looked at her.
"Really?" She asked, sheepish and quiet. Sure, it was just a painting, but it kind of meant the world to her that he really appreciated it.
