Especially if any real magical creatures were going to arrive, since so far it was just everyone's pets like requested. Plus, she hadn't forgotten the pixie incident in Herbology, and didn't want Professor McClane thinking she didn't have control.
It seemed others weren't quite as nervous about class, and she glanced over at the Slytherin girl in concern. "A bright red salamander?," she verified, shifting Lyra's position on her lap to look at the ground. "Kind of like your hair?" Hadn't the salamander been in the girl's hair earlier, after all? It didn't really matter, though, and after a moment she saw movement near the picnic table. "Is he over there?," she asked, pointing. She'd definitely seen red over there. "Um, yeah. He likes to hide there." she said, automatically putting her hand to her shoulder where he usually sat.
Oh... where..? She followed the girl's point to the foot of the picnic table...
"Thank you!" she said, running over to look.
Hmm... red... RED!! THERE! She pounced, putting her hands over the flash of colour.
"GOTCHA!" She raised her hands to her face, peering between her fingers...
"Right, Sal. You. Behave. Right. Now." she hissed at him. The little red lizard looked at her, innocently.
"Don't give me that look. I've told you time and again to stop running off after other animals."
IDIOT thing. He'd probably spotted a mouse or something... She went to sit back down, pulling a little wooden box from her pocket. It was full of crickets - dead of course. She took one out and put it on her knee, putting the box back in her pocket. The lizard scuttled towards the cricket and snapped it up then, content, curled up on the palm of her hand.
