She snorted. "I happen to disagree...but that's just me. I'm a little biased towards Carter..."...Of course, this was speculation. Marilyn was too young to even be thinking about it...but girls always tried to picture who they'd married, have children with, and grow old together...Right now the picture was fuzzy...

For some reason, the unknown scared Marilyn nearly to death.

"I feel like you're not telling my all of your concerns." Marilyn's answer was too short. Rafe never thought of him taking over the pack as a duty. He made it his choice. Raoul never made Rafe feel obligated to follow in his footsteps. Rafe simply wanted to do good in the world, and this was the path that was created for him. "You know I would never put myself in any danger. I wouldn't want anyone to worry." Rafe knew that even though they weren't together, he knew she cared about him. He never wanted her to worry, which was part of the reason he couldn't tell her of his little mission over the summer.

"I have my life planned out, but what about yourself?" Rafe imagined a future with Marilyn, but now he took a step back and just imagined a life alone. There was still a place for her in it, but that wasn't his choice. Marilyn deserved a lavish lifestyle and that was something he was willing to give. It would be interesting to see if Carter could do the same. But, from what he heard about him making the Puddlemore United team, there was a good chance he could just do that.
