What he had meant by 'checking out the tables' was checking out how the people acted, mainly, but he didn't feel the need to clarify. When she patted the seat beside her, he gave a smile and took her up on the offer to sit at the Black and Yellow table. "Thanks."

How awesome they were? Well, well - she certainly had some house pride! "Of course, of course; I'm sure all the kids at the other tables are thinking how sad it is that they hadn't been placed in Hufflepuff."
