She smiled at the girl and stood up, pushing the door back. 'I'll be back in just a sec,' she told her, and slipped out, walking across into the boy's compartment.
'Hi,' she said brightly, waving. 'I was just wondering - cause you look sort of lonely - if you'd like to come and sit with me and my friend in our compartment?' she asked, hoping that she didn't seem weird. She was just nice! Well, and maybe a bit weird too, but no one needed to know that.
Ashley didn't mind too much sitting alone. He did many, many things alone. Besides, he figured he was bound to make a friend or two at school at least. That didn't mean that he wasn't bored, though. The book was somewhat interesting, and it was probably good to get some early studying in, but he wouldn't mind trying to have a conversation with someone.
Trying being the operative word there. Conversation wasn't one of his strong points. Still, didn't seem bothered at all when the girl showed up suddenly, just giving her a questioning look until she was done speaking.
"Ah, sure, that sounds fine," he said, getting up and putting his book away. Still... "I look lonely? Really?" That didn't sound good. He didn't want to sit around looking desperate or anything. That was just embarrassing.
