Violet had had a bit of a struggle getting her trunk stowed away by herself (she began to think that getting away from her governess early might not have been such a good idea after all). In the process she had gotten separated from the girls she had been standing with and now she was walking down the corridor in the back of the train by herself with Mack's cage in her hand, peering in the compartment windows and trying to decide where to sit. She thought she had better hurry, too, because everyone was scrambling for a seat all at once. Suddenly she saw a girl sitting alone and writing or drawing on some sort of notebook. Good! Maybe if she sat here she would get a chance to catch up on her journal.

She poked her head inside the doorway and said, "Hello, my name is Violet, Violet P. Blackthorne. Do you mind if I sit in here?"

She feels one of her necklaces rub against her hand and gently wraps her hand around her necklace of the Sears Tower, feeling comforted by it.
