Kurumi wasn't sure if his comment had been said so that she could hear it, or if he was more talking to himself. Either way, Kurumi's ears had caught it and she looked down at the ground for a few moments. Had she said something wrong to upset him? "The ones that leave us are never really gone you know," she said, not sure where the words were coming from. "At least, the effect of knowing them doesn't." She turned her back to the flying brooms for a moment to give him her full attention. "I don't know what all you have been through, and it is probably a lot," her eyes momentarily flicked towards the scars on his face. "But, I've lost many people. Best friends, people who I thought I could trust. They left me because of who I am..." She frowned. "But...if I have learned anything it is this: you can't let the pain of loss prevent you from seeing what is right in front of you."

Kurumi almost laughed at herself. It sounded like something you would find on the inside of a fortune cookie.

Jack nodded, "losing people can do that too." He said resentfully, thinking of his father. Maybe she was right. Maybe when he went to Hogwarts there would be something magically miraculous happen to him and he would forevermore live a life of joy and ease.

As if.

His body was so tense at this point he flinched when Kurumi touched his shoulder. He hadn't meant to. "Sorry," He said apologetically, but didn't explain his tensity, so instead relaxed.

Just as he had gotten his heart to beat a little slower, his eyes to flash a little less, his mind to be a little less cautious, Kurumi's next words brought it all back again. "I'm fine." He said, but he didn't look at her. His head was firmly straight, his grey eyes firmly fixed on a cloud in the distance.

"You could say that," Kurumi blushed. "Selina has been more like the little sister I never had." She looked over at Jack and smiled at him. "People always effect you in ways that you never expected. I suppose that is one of the magics of Hogwarts." Perhaps the best kind of magic. "I am sure you will find someone who you connect with at Hogwarts," she nodded placing a hand on his shoulder for only a brief moment before removing.

Kurumi looked at him and noticed that he was losing a bit of color in his cheeks. Her eyes glanced at the gashes, but she tried not to look at them too long, it was rude after all. "A-Are you alright?"

Jack stared at Selina in disbelief. So far this week he had met three girls, two of which were mad at him and two of which were most likely soon to catch on to the seemingly popular trend.

He shook his head, and walked in step with Kurumi, grateful to know someone who didn't hate him. "I suppose you have to sort of respect her for it." He shrugged. But he could feel his cheeks turning pale with shame, because he hadn't been honest with anyone about... about how his gashes got there. He was grateful they didn't ask, but felt bad for lying anyway.

Kurumi looked back and forth between the two and then at the money pinching carnie. Could they get on? Or would they attempt to charge them extra for getting onto the ride without permission? Kurumi had no idea how things like this worked - seeing as this was her first carnival ever.

And then the air around the three of them got heavy, really heavy. Did this mean Kurumi was going to need to play peacemaker? She sure hoped not considering how little she knew about Jack and the ocean of information she knew about Selina.

Seeing Selina taking the lead and heading over to the brooms, Kurumi took a timid step forward.

It was alright to ride now, right? They had paid and all...

Before she did, Kurumi glanced over her shoulder and smiled at Jack. "Don't feel too offended by anything Selina says or does," Kurumi reassured him, noticing the somewhat confused expression on his face. "She can be brutally honest, but she always means well."
