That night was the last Scorpius would ever see. And he knew exactly why when that fiery woman stepped from the shadows. He knew he couldn’t outrun her forever, although he tried. It was a valiant effort, if it had not been in vain. So perhaps we should start before this. Yes, we should start before Scorpius and Bella ever were star crossed lovers, destined for failure. Back when Bella was still Lily Potter and Scorpius was still the hero of Slytherin house.

Lily Potter was one of the smartest witches at Hogwarts to date. Her knowledge of spells and witchery rivaled that of even her great Aunt Hermione. She knew that she would always ace any test given, regardless of what it was over. You could also say she as a bit of a romantic…inside at least. She would never admit it openly. She was too independent and stubborn to do that.

Her first year of Hogwarts, she found the man that she knew she would spend her life with, Scorpius Malfoy. She knew that he was older, and probably would never notice someone like her, a first year “weasley” Gryffindor. Though she never gave up and little did she know, Scorpius had been thinking the same thing since the first time he laid eyes on her.
Loving someone who you couldn’t have was just about the worst feeling in the world. She decided that her 2nd year in Potions, listening to some teacher drone on about the right amount of valerian roots to put in our cauldron.

That was when Scorpius noticed her, at least that’s what she thought. That day, she had needed a partner for their potion making, and he chose her. She thought it probably was because he just wanted an ‘a’ in the lesson, that’s why most other kids partnered with her. But she was wrong. Seriously wrong.

“Hey. Lily, right?” Scorpius said smoothly.

Oh my god. He was actually talking to me!!!! She thought, trying her best to keep her cool.

“I’ve noticed you are quite good with potions, and well…I’m kind of terrible." He chuckled and ran his fingers through his dirty blonde hair. "Would you like to be my partner?” He asked, his hazel eyes sparkling.

She tried to find the words to say without sounding like a total idiot, but still trying to sound not so twelve. “Uh…yeah! Of course I would.” She wanted so badly to say, well I don’t think you’re that terrible. But she didn’t want to sound like a complete dork. “Scorpius, right?” Knowing full well who he was. “You’re in the same year as my brother, Albus, aren’t you?”

He was stunned that she actually agreed. Wow, she is beautiful. He thought as she continued to talk. “Uh yeah. Al, we are in the same year. And yes, I’m Scorpius Malfoy.” He took her hand and kissed it lightly on the top. “Enchante, mademoiselle.” Oh yeah, real smooth Scor, rolling his eyes in his memory. But she had to have liked it, as he could see blood rushing to her cheeks.

Lily giggled like a little school girl as he made her blush, something that wasn’t easily done. “It’s nice to meet you too Scorpius.” She smiled. “Shall we get started?” She gestured to the still empty cauldron. She knew that if they continued to keep up this talking charade without working much longer, then the professor would come ‘talk’ to them about it.

“Perhaps.” He said winking at her. He didn’t want to overdo it, but he did want to show her he was more interested in her as just a lab partner.
