They were a friendly bunch, Artie quickly learned, and she had been very excited to offer her and Brett's assistance with face painting for the event. She was sure it would be something fun for them to do together, and gave her another excuse to escape the chaos of her shop a little bit sooner and spend extra time with him.

And of course, Artemis couldn't resist the opportunity to take her sister's ten-month-old son, Vincent, for the evening to experience the carnival. Even if he was a bit too young to do much and wouldn't remember it when he was a little bit older, it was something Artie would remember, something she could tell him about one day. Absently, her hand gently stroked the little blonde locks on the child's head as he cuddled into her, apparently content to sit and watch anything and everything around them. Artemis' gaze turned from noticing the few people walking by, to looking back to Brett, a warm, happy smile playing on her lips. "I'm ready and excited," Artie said, her smile growing a bit. "What about you?"
Brett smiled at Artie as she answered him, and then dropped his gaze to her little nephew who sat quietly in her lap, apparently content in his current situation.

"You know that I"m ready. Ready and willing to do anything when I get to spend time with you." Yeah, it was cheesy, but he was still feeling the effects of Artie's unwilling and long absence from his life. A brief frown flickered across his face before he smiled again. He couldn't worry about that now. It was over and done with and he was determined not to let her out of his sight again.

A playful smile suddenly emerged as he looked at Artemis, an idea of genius proportions having occurred.

So I thought that since I’m starting at Hogwarts I’d better get a decent broom if I want to get onto the house team.’ She saw him looking critically at the broom - he looked like an expert. ‘As soon as I saw the Firebolt I just had to get one! You see, even though this’ll be my first year at Hogwarts I’ll be in my fourth year and, to make up for the three years I’ve missed out on, I’m joining every club, every team…Quidditch, gobstones, wizard’s chess…’
‘I might miss out on the homework club though,’ she added thoughtfully.
"Well, I can completely understand that. The Firebolt is a pretty darn nice broom. You're lucky to have one." He glanced at the broom again and then lifted the brush to began painting. "Hold real still..." He warned quietly. "Where'd you go to school previously?"

He began to swipe the brush along one cheek. "Sounds like a lot of ambition to me though I wouldn't want to join the homework club either." He said with a laugh as he began to paint the twigs of the broom.
