She gave him and shaky smile and stepped toward the Ferris Wheel. His presence itself was reassuring; she didn't think she could do it without him there. And then, he reached his hand out toward her. Isobel's smile grew a little and she took his hand. She climbed in to the basket and sat next to him.

"Don't let go of my hand, okay?" She turned to look him in the eye and she squeezed his hand quick. Her fright was growing by the second, soon they would be really high up in the air.
The instant Isobel's hand found its way to Damien's all seemed right with the world. Which was what made him feel so bad at the exact same time. This ride would definately have to be a place for the two of them to talk. About everything. About what he saw in the library, about what he'd talked to Lockhart about -- it would be the chance for them to clear the air, get everything in the open and stay friends.

Best friends.

But is that what I want?

Isobel's voice registered, and Damien's eyes locked with hers the second she squeezed his hand. "I promise," he said, lacing his fingers between hers. "I won't let go."

The Carnie closed the basket door and soon they were on their way. But not too far, because there were still people in line behind them. The basket, however, swung back and fourth slightly. Damien glanced over to make sure Isobel was alright. "It'll be better when they get it going and it won't be all stop and go," he said.
