Love you, too!
New post! “Are you sure I should be here for this?” Teddy asked me for the millionth time. I was about to hex him if he didn’t cut it out. We were standing on my parent’s porch, staring at the front door as if it were a portal of doom. The Romanian smell calmed me somewhat. But only somewhat.
“You promised,” I reminded him and he nodded slightly.
Before either of us could make a move, the door opened. Bryce answered the door with a frown.
“Why are you two standing out here?” he asked us and I bit my lip.
“We were just talking. We’re coming in, don’t worry.” I almost wanted to tell him that we weren’t finished talking and to shut the door so we could finish our conversation, but then my Dad appeared behind my brother with his arms crossed over his chest and a scowl on his face. He never was very
welcoming to my boyfriends. Even if he had known Teddy since he was born, and
liked him. Of course, he ‘stopped liking him’ when we started dating. I gulped. We were
so doomed.
I grabbed Teddy’s hand and pulled him into the house. My Dad’s scowl deepened.
“We need to talk to you and Mum. Alone,” I told him with a glance to my brother. He narrowed his eyes at us and crossed his arms over his chest like my Dad. It would have been cute in any other situation. But it just made me queasy.
Dad and Mum sat us down in the living room, in opposite arm chairs while they took the couch.
“Well?” my Mum asked impatiently.
“T-Teddy and I…” I started before stopping. My Dad narrowed his eyes.
“You’re not married, are you?” he growled and I shook my head quickly. Nope, but you’re going to wish it were that instead, Daddy. I stared at my hands for the longest time and I could hear Teddy shifting nervously in his chair.
“We’re pregnant,” I blurted out. Silence. I think it was worse than silence, actually. My parents didn’t talk. They just stared at me. So, I stared at my shoes. And then they started laughing.
“Hilarious, darling,” my Mother laughed. I frowned.
“You had us there for a minute,” my Dad continued. I stared at them in shock and they stopped laughing.
“You are joking, right?” my Dad whispered. I shook my head as I bit my lip. Wait for it. Wait for it.
“You did WHAT to my baby girl, Lupin?” my Dad boomed. There. That was the reaction I suspected.
Dad shot up from the couch and started for Teddy as Teddy tried to disappear into the chair. It wasn’t working for him too well. So, I did the most logical thing.
“Petrificus Totalus!” I screamed at my Dad, my wand held up in front of me.
“Abigail!” my Mum shouted as she caught Dad before he hit the floor. She lowered him to the crimson carpet.
“Why did you do that?” she asked as she stared up at me.
“I panicked! I had to buy myself more time!” I shouted as I pulled Teddy away from the previous line of fire.
“To do what?” she asked with an upturned, sculpted eyebrow.
“To panic!” I screeched, and to my surprise and amusement, my Mum started laughing uncontrollably as she wordlessly enervated my father.
He seemed confused at first and then his gaze zeroed in on me and Teddy.
“Abigail Weasley!” my father shouted and I flinched. He tried to stand but Mum, bless her, held him back.
“How did it happen? And no—I do not mean that way. I’m well aware of the logistics. But you two weren’t even seeing each other at the time, were you?” Mum asked.
I shook my head as Teddy started rambling about us getting drunk, too drunk to remember a contraceptive charm. I wish he wouldn’t have mentioned that. It would only make it worse.
“You got my baby girl drunk?” Daddy shouted. I groaned as I buried my face in my hands. My Mum still hadn’t declared if she were entirely upset with me yet, and I was hoping that she’d take my side and support me and Teddy. She didn’t
exactly do as I’d hoped.
“How could you have been so irresponsible, Abigail?” she asked me quietly. Incredulous tears dripped down my face as I met her eyes.
“I know. I’m so-sorry. But it’s happened, and Teddy and I are happy.” My father continued to glare at my boyfriend. He and Mum sat back down on the couch, and Teddy and I went back to our original seats. I stood shakily and went to sit in Dad’s lap. I know I was probably too big to be sitting in my Daddy’s lap, but it didn’t stop me. I wanted him to be happy for us.
“Daddy,” I whispered. I’ve always been a Daddy’s Girl, and I know that he’d do anything for me. I had him wrapped around my finger. Everyone knew it. I was his princess. Caroline was, too, but she still wasn’t as skilled at pulling off the puppy dog look as I was.
“Teddy and I do love each other. And we’re going to raise our baby with as much love as you and Mum raised me. And before you ask, no, we do not plan on getting married because we’re pregnant. Things are fantastic between us right now. We want to let things work out as they’re supposed to, and if that leads us to getting married somewhere along the way, then so be it. But right now, we’re just dating. I’m going to move in with him. No, Daddy, listen. We’re moving in together and we’re going to have this baby. And I really want you to be there for me. I need you, Daddy. And my baby is going to need its Grandpa,” I whispered.
My Dad pulled me into his embrace and played with my hair as he kissed my forehead. It was very relaxing and familiar.
“All right,” he whispered. My Mum smiled at the two of us as she placed her hand on my knee.
“Who all have you told?” Mum asked us. I could tell Teddy was uncomfortable, especially with the glares my Dad was still sending him when he thought I wasn’t looking. Even though I would have rather burrowed farther into my father’s arms like I did when I was little, I made myself leave his arms and walk over to Teddy. I plopped down into his lap and he stared at me with wide eyes.
“Abi,” my Dad warned me.
“We’re already pregnant, Daddy. What more is this going to do?” I asked with a raised brow. He narrowed his eyes at us, but I ignored him while I pulled Teddy’s arms around my waist and looked at my Mum.
“Fred and James, but nobody else.” “Why did you tell your cousins before us?” Dad demanded.
“Moral support,” I shrugged.
“Teddy, dear, why don’t you help me in the kitchen with lunch?” Mum asked. I could feel him trembling slightly as he nodded and I stifled a small chuckle. See, I told you I chuckle.
“I promise she doesn’t bite,” I whispered as I maneuvered to let him get up. He dared to kiss my temple chastely before hurrying off after my Mum.
Something under the other doorway twitched and I narrowed my eyes at the ear-like object. Uncle George was so a back-stabber!
“Bryce, Jesse, and Caroline! Get your bums in here this instant!” I yelled. My Dad looked at me in confusion before my younger siblings tumbled through the door in surprise with three pairs of Extendable Ears hanging in their hands.
“How much did you hear?” I demanded as I stood with my hands on my hips. Mum says I look like Grandmum when I do that. And Aunt Ginny.
“You and Teddy are having a baby!” Caroline sang before dancing out of the way of my swinging hand.
“Abigail, be nice to your sister! Caroline, how many times have I told you three not to listen in on somebody’s conversation?” my Dad asked. He sounded very tired all of a sudden and I suddenly felt guilty for causing it. I probably caused a few new gray hairs to pop in, too.
“You’re the ones that forgot to ward off the room. You do know who our Uncle is, don’t you?” Jesse asked with a smirk.
“You three better keep it to yourself! Don’t tell anyone, am I understood?” I demanded. They all nodded, albeit with mischievous smirks on their faces.
That had been a long night for the Weasleys and Lupins, and when Teddy and I finally left, we had all agreed on plans to move my stuff into Teddy’s house the following weekend. And then, we’d go shopping for the new nursery. Even Uncle Harry and Victoire took the news okay. We had both decided to tell Victoire as a sort of warning before the rest of the family. She had been excited at the news and she made us promise that we would let her babysit. We did.
I know that it’s probably a bit too cliché to say, but we were happy. That was, of course, until drama showed up at the Weasley Friday Holiday.
What do you think?
