There has been an increase in interest in the sport in recent years, fuelled in part by a certain fictional schoolboy wizard with a pet owl, but this leads to people with no specialist knowledge attempting to look after them.
Sarah says: "The worst thing that has happened to falconry is Harry Potter. Anybody can go along and buy an owl and often they don't know anything about it.

"A lot of barn owls end up getting handed in as rescue birds — and it's not even a barn owl in Harry Potter!"
