Learning to Use the Magic Stick Thingy
Age 11
Nick stared down at his new ‘wand’ thingy. He didn’t get how this was supposed to help him control his magical outbursts. They had gotten progressively worse since that first day he had made his sister’s phone blow up. After that, he set the microwave on fire. The worst was probably how he almost made the car crash when his sister Makaila wouldn’t stop picking on him for having weird powers. He knew she was just jealous. He only got angry because she wouldn’t admit how awesome it actually was. He looked up at his grandparents.
“Are you sure this thing will help do magic?” Nick asked for about the millionth time. He just wasn’t so sure about how it would work.
“Yes deary. I’m sure it will work.” His grandmother said giving him a kind smile.
“What do you say we go practice in the backyard?”
Nick nodded at his grandfather’s question. He enjoyed living with his grandparents and watching them do magic on a daily basis. It was really really awesome! He followed his granddad out into the backyard. He was so excited to actually be learning how to use this stick/wand/whatever. His grandfather sat on a bench and pulled out his own wand.
“Let’s start with something simple.” He pointed his wand at a rock.
“Wingardium Leviosa.”
His grandfather smiled as Nick’s expression showed sheer amazement. He loved the looks on young witches and wizards’ faces when they saw magic. He let the rock gently float to the ground.
“Would you like to try, Nicky?” The excited eleven year old started to bounce with excitement.
“All right. Take out your wand.” Nick did as he was told.
“Point it at the rock and move your wand like this-“ he demonstrated with his own.
“while saying Wingardium Leviosa.” Once again the rock began to levitate.
“Now it’s your turn.”
Nick tried, but nothing happened. He tried again and again, but still nothing. He was getting frustrated now…and his grandfather could definitely tell.
“Relax. And try again.”
Nick did as he was told and watched as the rock started to float a little. The eleven year old had the biggest grin appear on his face.
“I DID IT!” P.S. If anyone is reading this, feel free to comment or PM/VM so I know.
