Skye turned her face towards Louisa, and tilted her head to one side a little to show that she was listening. She did not move, except to reach for her wand in her back pocket when the younger girl began to cry again. With a wave of her wand, Skye conjured up a clean handkerchief, which she pressed into Louisa's hand before returning to her previous position. She still said nothing; only let the other girl pour out her feelings, because bottling them up would make her feel worse. When Louisa looked up at her, Skye returned the gaze, trying to convey some of her kindness and understanding of the situation through eyes alone. After the other girl had finished, Skye pressed her lips together and paused for a moment, collecting her thoughts. Then she said, in her usual gentle Irish cadences:
"Louisa, my girl, listen to me. Your parents, the way you described them. Are they Muggles? It is never easy for the Muggle parents of a witch or wizard to accept that one of their children has magic powers. I imagine that the vision of you that they had was quite different than the wonderful witch you're turning out to be. But don't think even for a moment that they ever stopped loving you. It may take time for them to accept you. But they will. Trust me." She nodded. "As for Johnny...my guess is that they simply had trouble trying to figure out owl post. Security is a lot tighter these days. Perhaps they did want to tell you before, but didn't know how. It might not even be a big deal. Everyone gets sick sometimes. He probably just has a bad case of the flu. He'll be fine," she promised.

Skye had to refrain from rolling her eyes when Enya spoke. Sometimes people can't help it when they cry, she wanted to say. Sometimes it's better to let it all out. But she didn't want to cause more conflict. So of course, she said nothing.

Louisa wiped her face yep all of it with the handkerchief Skye had conjured and smiled when Enya told her to stop. Before she could answer, Skye started talking. Louisa's eyes stared down at the floor. Her friend did make sense… some sense. "I doubt that they know how to send a letter. It's Marina that sent me the owl." She clarified looking up, "She's my guardian… sort of." Shrugging she continued, "I hope you're right. I want them to give me a chance to prove myself. It's just…" She let an exaggerated sigh, ".. they didn't stick around to find out. I don't blame Jason… he doesn't want his kids to know magic and Hogwarts but my mom! She's the one who did this to me." Gulp. And because it was weird to say that, the thirteen year old continued, "She married a wizard! What did she expect?" Louisa scowled and folded her arms. "If I see my real father ever again, I'm going to let him know how ungrateful I am." A big fat 'if' that was.

She then looked at the folded scarf and box of gumballs lying nearby and gave a crooked small smile, "Those presents are fake by the way. Marina did it to make me feel better. Mom doesn't knit and I only started to like those gumballs this summer. Nobody knew about them except for her." Yet, she was flattered that someone did care about her happiness. Someone other than her friends.

Skye was glad to see that some of her words were making sense. Even helping to make Louisa feel better. Most of the time, she kind of just made stuff up and hoped that the other person believed it. Well, she didn't make it up...but it wasn't like she was pretending that she knew everything about everyone, either. She had no idea what Louisa's parents were like. She didn't understand Muggles. Still ,the sentiment came from her heart. So she was glad to see that it had some effect.

"Well," she said, "maybe your parents didn't tell Marina either until recently." She frowned at Louisa's next proclamation, a little crease forming in between her slim eyebrows. "Did your mother know that she was marrying a wizard?" she asked. "When people are in denial, they can make themselves believe a lot of things. But I do believe that she still loves you. The next time you see her, I think you should have this conversation with her. Try and figure out some reasons for the things she does. They're probably quite different than you think."

Skye looked down at the presents. She hadn't noticed them before. "Fake?" she asked. "As long as someone who cares about you gave them to you, I'd say that they are very real." She looked up at Louisa and offered her a smile.
