Izabella lay on her back, the grass swaying around her as she closed her eyes and stretched out her arms. She sighed deeply, absorbing the sun and guiltily enjoying her free period, disregarding the pile of school books that lay beside her.
A splash of water landed on her nose and she frowned, wiping at her face with her sleeve. Another, larger fall of water splashed her cheek and she sat up in annoyance. The sun was still beating down gloriously and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. She glanced up into the tree above her but the leaves were completely parched. Frowning deeply she looked towards the lake but she was sat too far away for it to be the Giant Squid that was splashing her.
There was a stifled laugh from behind her and she sighed as she turned around and glared at the intruders.
“Mature!” she yelled sarcastically, as James and Sirius burst into a fit of laughter, clutching at each other for support as they mimicked her looking about for a sign of rain. Remus rolled his eyes and joined Izabella underneath the tree as she leant against the trunk, glaring at Sirius and James. Peter sat down on the grass, cross legged, and giggled admiringly.
“Sorry Izzy. It was just too tempting.” Sirius said, grinning as he flopped down beside her and shoved her playfully, his brown hair falling across his handsome face.
Izabella raised an eyebrow at him and he looked back at her with wide, innocent eyes. She laughed softly and shook her head in fondness.
“Where's Lily?” she asked.
“Probably talking to Sniv-” James stopped and rolled his eyes. “Severus.” he continued, overly gracious.
Izabella chuckled.
“Call him Snivellus all you like in front of me.” she said shrugging slightly. James suddenly began fiddling with his hair and Izabella rolled her eyes, she looked towards the castle and was not surprised to see Lily stomping towards them, her fiery hair blowing from the speed she was walking at.
Lily threw down her bag and collapsed onto the floor.
“That was the hardest exam ever.” she complained. Sirius yawned and stretched out across the grass, resting his head on Izabella's leg.
“I thought it was easy. Wouldn't you agree James?” he said, twisting his head to smirk at his best friend. James grinned but didn't reply as he caught sight of Lily's deathly stare. She pulled out the exam paper and sat, reading through the questions and cross referencing it with her textbooks, sighing occasionally.
“I don't know what you are all complaining about.” Izabella said moodily, folding her arms. “You never have to do another exam again.”
James and Sirius beamed, Remus smiled at her sympathetically.
“It will be so boring here without you lot.” said Izabella moaned, pouting her bottom lip slightly.
“Don't worry Izzy. You've got Regulus.” Sirius said smirking. Izabella shoved him and his head rolled off her legs. He turned onto his front and beamed up at her and she laughed, until he looked at James mischievously.
“We need to do something. It's our last day.” he said, as James' eyes sparkled.
“I like your thinking Padfoot.”
“Why, thank you Prongs.”
They had both jumped up and were looking excited. Izabella chuckled and looked up at Sirius with a smile on her face. He had rolled his sleeves up, revealing his strong, muscular arms and his tie was loosely hanging around his neck. His hair fell perfectly across his tanned face and his dark eyes shone enthusiastically.
“Come on Remus.” Sirius said as he picked up his bag and threw it over his shoulder.
Remus sighed and stood up.
“Well they can't expel us on the last day.” he said, smiling at Lily and Izabella as they chuckled. Peter had already moved over to stand by James and was bouncing on the balls of his feet.
James leant down and kissed Lily's cheek softly.
“I'll see you later.” he said as she smiled up at him.
“Bye,” said Lily. “And don't do anything too dangerous.”
“When have we ever done anything dangerous?” Sirius said innocently. He winked at Izabella then rushed off with James and the others, their heads bent low and talking in whispering voices.
Izabella laughed as she watched them leave, wondering what they'd come up with for their grand finale. She glanced at Lily and rolled her eyes as she noticed she was still flicking through textbooks.
“Lily Evans! If you don't put that exam away I will burn it.” Izabella warned in a dark voice. Lily rolled her eyes but stowed the paper in her bag and shuffled to join Izabella by the trunk of the tree. They sat in silence for a while, enjoying the heat and smiling as the sun kissed their pale skin.
“I can't believe you won't be here next year.” said Izabella quietly.
Lily turned, leaning her shoulder against the tree and looked at Izabella.
“Don't worry Iz. We'll come and see you when you're in Hogsmede and you can come and stay with me at Christmas.” she said comfortingly.
“It won't be the same though. You have James now.” Izabella said quietly.
“Izabella. You will always be my best friend.”
Lily nudged her gently and Izabella turned to smile at her.
“You're so lucky to have him. He really loves you.”
Lily looked down at the floor, a small smirk crawling across her face. Izabella smiled slightly then sighed.
“Don't worry. Sirius will grow up soon.” Lily said gently.
“I'm sick of just being that girl he takes out every so often.”
“You're not-”
“I am Lily,” Izabella said in a tired voice. “He's never called me his girlfriend. Ever.”
She gazed out across the grounds of Hogwarts towards the darkness of the Forest and sighed. Lily placed a hand on her shoulder gently. Izabella turned back to her friend and smiled.
“We had better get back up to the castle. I haven't packed yet.”
“Why do you leave everything to the last minute?” Lily complained with a sigh. Izabella grinned and shoved her books back into her bag, swinging it on over her shoulder.
The two girls started to walk back in the direction of the castle, strolling down the edge of the Lake.
Suddenly Lily gasped and threw her bag on the floor.
“What?” Izabella said in a panicked voice, looking about them and withdrawing her wand.
“I think I answered number 10 wrong!” Lily said in a frantic voice, searching through her bag for the question paper. Izabella stared at her incredulously then pushed her, so she toppled head first into the water. As she surfaced, coughing and spluttering, she glared up at Izabella who was roaring with laughter.
“Izabella! I'm soaking!”
“You need to lighten up Lil.” she said grinning as she threw her bag down on the grass then ran up to the edge of the water, curling up into a ball just before she hit the surface of the lake. Lily was hit with a wave of water and scowled as Izabella's head popped up from beneath the water.
“You're an idiot.” Lily said, rolling her eyes, but a smile was creeping onto her face. Izabella laughed and splashed the surface of the water at Lily.
After they had fooled around for a while, they swam to the egde of the lake and pulled themselves out, bursting into a fit of giggles as they looked at each other. Their long hair was dripping continuously, plastered to their faces and their school uniform clung tightly to them and was heavy with water.
They picked up their bags and carrying their sodden shoes in their hands, walked back up the castle, dripping a trail of water the whole way. They shivered slightly as they walked out of the sunshine and into the Entrance Hall. Izabella stopped and frowned as she caught sight of a group of people standing by the gem-filled hourglasses.
“Sev?” she called as she caught sight of her brother. He turned and Izabella groaned as she noticed who was accompanying him. “Mother what are you doing her?” she snapped.
The small figure of Eileen Prince turned towards her and fixed her with a stern look. A man dressed in fine robes raised his eyebrow slightly and walked behind Izabella's mother as the three of them made their way over to the soaking wet girls. The man pierced her with a curious look and Izabella looked at her mother intently, feeling uncomfortable.
“I came to see my children if that's alright with you.” Eileen said, pursing her lips at Izabella's appearance. “What have you been doing?” she said, casting a reproachful, almost disgusted, look at Lily.
“You'll see us tomorrow! And we went in the lake.” Izabella said with a shrug. Severus rolled his eyes and Izabella glared at her brother. “What? It's a hot day.”
The blonde man chuckled quietly and Izabella looked at Severus questioningly.
“This is Abraxas Malfoy.” Eileen announced, smiling widely. Izabella accepted his hand shake.
“Oi. Izzy, Lily.” Sirius shouted from the top of the stairs. He bounded down the steps, then stopped when he saw them. Eileen looked furious and Severus had rolled his eyes in annoyance.
“What?” Izabella shouted, oblivious to the reactions around her.
“Erm... Nothing.” he said stratching his head nervously. Lily rolled her eyes.
“I'll see you later Iz.” she said, flashing a smile and nodding her head slightly at Eileen then rushing up the stairs and shoving Sirius along the corridor, mummering to him under her breath.
“Well...” Izabella said awkwardly. “I need to go and pack-”
“I told you to do that yesterday.” Severus said firmly.
“Well I didn't.” Izabella said, rolling her eyes and squeezing some water out of her hair absentmindedly. Malfoy and Eileen exchanged a look and Izabella frowned.
“What?” she demanded.
“I have some news for you both.” Eileen said quietly. Izabella's forehead creased and she looked at Severus; he looked just as confused as she did.
“Come.” Malfoy said in a deep voice, leading them to a classroom by the Entrance Hall. They made their way inside and Severus and Izabella sat down opposite their mother as Malfoy leant against the wall behind her.
