Marie tried holding the tears back but when Matty started to rub her cheek the tears started to fall.
"How can you say you won't get hurt again after what happened the last time?" She did NOT want to get another letter from his uncle telling her he had been hurt again... or worse...
No, she wasn't going to think about the or worse part. She couldn't. Thinking about that hurt too much. Looking into his eyes she still had tears running down her face. She wanted so bad to ask him not to go but she knew she couldn't. She had already tried that once over the summer and it didn't work. She was pretty sure it wouldn't work now. She didn't think there was anything that would change his mind once he had decided what he was going to do.
This day was just getting better and better.
