The professor pushed a stray bang behind her ear and under her pirate hat with a smile, “Yes you are all correct. The pirate flags all had the colors red, black, white, and sometimes yellow. All of them, had a dark meaning to them. They were simple designs so that they were easy to see from far distances. They represented a warning to any other ships that doom could and probably would be headed their way. But they could also be seen as their family/crew’s crest much like our house crests. ” she glanced over the students and then continued.

Not all pirates were evil but they all did have an agenda from finding treasure, to stealing from government ships, to even searching for their long lost true loves. But most pirates did have one thing in common, they had magical tendencies. Either the captain had magical powers or someone in the crew could be linked to magic. And pirates are not just wizards of fairy tale, they were real wizards that the muggle world dealt with for many generations and, even today, the muggle world is still fascinated with the idea and magic surrounding the pirating community. Some of the pirates were working for good causes in the end, but some were just crooks. They weren't all great examples of wizards to look up to, but they did shape our history, especially in the muggle world.

She smiled at the students, “I mentioned earlier the pirates that were linked to the magic schools, including Hogwarts. We know of Davvy Jones possibly being linked to Durmstrong through their magic ship and of Barnabus the Bloody being seen close to Hogwarts. Can anyone guess what their agenda, or reason/cause, was that could possibly have linked them to the schools?” she asked the students.

OOC: Have fun trying to figure out why these pirates were interested or connected with the schools. There is no right or wrong answer. This is the last question of the class and then I’ll post Homework in a little while! Thanks everyone! Remember Gemma is watching!!!! *huggles you all ARGG!*

Penny thought about the question...then putting her hand in the air.."Aye, professor, could it have been that the captains o' these pirate ships wanted t' recruit new crew and opted for school lea'in' wizards? A pence for an old man o'de sea?"
