January 2075 (IC-wise) Classes in Session Muggle Studies Lesson 1 Charms Lesson 1 Ancient Runes Lesson Two History of Magic Lesson Two
*Reminder: Do NOT post your late arrival. Just pretend like you were there the whole time. Scheduled classes Currently none. Homework Divination Lesson 1 Homework After the lesson, it should be obvious that there are some aspects of the established list of symbols and meanings that don't necessarily work when it comes to all symbol-based Divination.
In that case, perhaps there should be a bit of alteration to make the list more appropriate, or at least more meaningful for our purposes.
Assignment: Choose one option:
* Choose five of the already established symbols from the list given in class and write your own interpretations of their meanings
-or-
* Create three new symbols and give their meanings
Note: For each option, also include a short explanation (300 words maximum) as to why you selected/created these symbols, and if you like, include some sort of imagery to help visualize the symbols (what they look like, etc.) Due by Sunday, June 12 at midnight PST (Monday, June 13 at 8 am GMT / 3 am EST). PM to Professor Bishop (SilverTiger) Worth 10 Points; and remember to include your Character Name, User Name, House, User ID (Found in your Profile at the end of the URL), and Title of Assignment. Herbology Homework One Task:
Answer the following Questions:
1) Identify the three sub-categories of water plants, and provide an example of each. (3 points)
2) Write a short essay on how witches and wizards can help protect the environment and save endangered plants. Please refer to the Stubby Purple Coral as a primary example in your explanation. (7 points) Note: Essay should consist of no less than two paragraphs, seven sentences per paragraph minimum. Due by Monday, June 13 at 11 am GMT. PM to Professor Bentley (Hera) Worth 10 Points; and remember to include your Character Name, User Name, House, User ID (Found in your Profile at the end of the URL), and Title of Assignment. Astronomy 1
Choose one of the following:
1. On the basis of what you learned this lesson, discuss the merits of searching for extraterrestrial life. Is it even worth looking for it? Are there better ways of going about it, and if so, what would they be? One roll of parchment maximum (3 paragraphs).
2. For the more creatively inclined among you: Come up with your own planet!
You will need to provide a short description of the planet itself (Does it have a name? Does it have moons? What does it look like?). Then, describe the sort of life this planet might have. What do the inhabitants look like? Do they walk upright like us? Do they breathe air? How do they live? Is there something like "magic" on this planet as well? Due by Friday, June 17 at 11:59 pm GMT. PM to Professor Antares (Antarctica!) Worth 10 Points; and remember to include your Character Name, User Name, House, User ID (Found in your Profile at the end of the URL), and Title of Assignment. Arithmancy Homework I
* Write a poem (paragram) that has some underlyng theme(s) present related to your house and/or its characteristics/values.
* Remember to use the Pythagorean Number System, as found in chapter two of the textbook, to add up the values of each line. You might need to tweak certain words/grammar in order to get the desired symmetry, but there should be some sort of pattern in the numerical value of each line. Lame Example:
ALL HOUSES ARE GREAT (70)
PROVIDING YOU WITH FUN (114)
READ A BOOK; DON'T BE LATE (70)
As you can see, the first and third lines have equivalent numerical values. They happen to rhyme too, but that isn't really necessary (more of an added bonus)
* Minimum 6 lines recommended
* Worth 10 points, but opportunity for extra credit points for OUTSTANDING efforts.
* Due by Finals Week, so you have some time to think on this assignment since it will be time consuming and should take some creativity/effort with regards to word usage =)
* Follow all Arithmancy homework submission guidelines found here. DUE BY FINALS WEEK. PM to Professor Hadley (PhoenixRising) Worth 10 Points; and remember to include your Character Name, User Name, House, User ID (Found in your Profile at the end of the URL), and Title of Assignment. Extras Hogwarts Grounds. Our beloved Groundskeeper Stryker is always busy, whereas talking to students or keeping the grounds looking as perfect as possible for us. The grounds are extensive, so make sure to keep an eye out for any volunteers he might be looking to lend a hand or two or four in doing some light chores around them. The Greenhouses / The Student Graden. Professor Bentley has worked hard over the summer to keep the Student Garden running, and we're sure she'll like to keep both the Garden and the Greenhouses well maintained... Have a knack for Herbology? Then why not offer your assistance in helping to ensure the plants are well nourished and everything kept in place? The Stable / Magical Creatures Nursery. All that we know is that creatures are kept there, and that Professor MacFusty oversees everything in there. Why not offer some assistance to help him out? Whether it be cleaning or caring for a little Crup, we're sure MacFusty would be glad. A suggestion? Try to stay away from the Professor's Jarvey. Hogwarts Library. Perhaps you are one who enjoys the books and spends way too much time inside reading/studying. If this is you, then try offering out your assistance to reshelving/organizing books to Madame Donovan. The Old Ship . No one knows where it came from, you might as well check it out and see if there's something you can find out about it. Plus, it's always fun to hang around in a Ship, no?
Find anyplace else that you think would be good to add to this 'extra' list for Badgers to know? Please send a PM to one (or both) of your House Prefects. Quidditch Game 1 - Results vs. 65____-____150 Hufflepuff caught the Snitch. Game Summary House Points Gryffindor: 997 Slytherin: 900 Ravenclaw: 826 Hufflepuff: 442 Prefect's Note If anyone hasn't noticed that we're currently holding the last place in the race for the House Cup, then that one person has been in the Hospital Wing since the start of the school year.
Yes, we're currently in last place, and whilst we need a lot of points to advance, we're Badgers, we're hard-workers, aren't we? That means...WE CAN DO THIS. Or, at least, earn a few more points, which can be done by completing some of that homework up there, or attending those lessons.
I will also like to point out that you should still attend your Potions lessons when Professor Lafay notifies us of one. The fire in the dungeons won't be considered as an excuse for lack of Hufflepuffs in her class.
Go on and be merry. Prefect Lockhart. |
