She didn't comment on it, though, as he'd sidetracked her by his own parry. "Touché," she said with a smile. If he didn't want to consider himself an expert on Charms, she wasn't going to let him call her an expert in Divination, and she knew he knew she didn't consider herself an expert at her subject anyhow. The whole idea had oddly, once again, dovetailed with her thoughts, however. Bringing her back to wondering how exactly he knew what she was thinking without actually being able to get into her thoughts. It was odd, although intriguing.

"The alternative isn't so bad if there's people who are willing to deal with you while you have a cold," she argued lightly, with a faint laugh in her voice. She had a feeling there were quite a few people here at Hogwarts who would fall all over themselves wanting to take care of him if he was sick. The number for her was much less significant, if it even really existed.

And then there was another pause, and she watched him as she waited for him to decide how he was going to answer her question. It was fairly straightforward, but there still was a number of good answers. Or bad ones, but she hoped that wasn't the case. Her smile came back as he finally finished his statement, though. "Always good to hear," she replied idly, sifting her fingers through the snow next to her as he'd glanced upwards. Not intending on doing anything, just occupying herself so she didn't think of other things. And she shrugged slightly as he spoke again. "As much as usual. It's not like I have much planned," she replied, still sifting through the snow. It seemed Sebastian was being a pain again, which she wasn't looking forward to dealing with whenever she headed back to New York. She kind of wanted to stall that trip again.

The divination-charms talk, and the subject of specialists, made Jared realize that he had never asked Renée about her field of expertise. It might have something to do with the fact that, on a general basis, he couldn't tell most forms of Divination apart from each other unless the difference was the apparent kind. "I'm curious, now." His eyes held a faint touch of inquiry. "What is the mademoiselle's field of choice?"

There was something about her semi-laughing tones that made him smile, even if it was a faint smile. "You wouldn't be referring to Lily, would you?" he asked, the feigned innocence - he was quite sure she hadn't had been thinking of the healer and her job, there - accompanied with a bit of a grin that ruined the pretence before it could have much effect.

He had a feeling the conversation was punctuated with more pauses, or at least with more quiet pauses - if there was a difference between a pause and a quiet pause, in the first place - than was usual for the two of them. Jared frowned, a slight, almost-not-there frown, but it disappeared as she spoke again. "I imagine you'll spend Christmas in New York?" he asked, half-turning, green gaze meeting her darker one. He hadn't made plans, not yet. But it might not be such a bad idea to remain in the castle, rather than head home, for the duration or at least part of the holidays. He could do with some time for himself.

Not that he expected anything to come of that.
