Kurumi bit her bottom lip and chewed on it softly when Treyen focused all his energy on her and she felt his gaze on her like warm sunshine and her cheeks flushed a bit more. She really needed to keep herself together before her hair turned bright rosy pink...HER HAIR!
Kurumi now noticed that her hair had been changing colors and suddenly felt like she should really hit him upside the head with the thick book of Ministry officials, but she didn't want to risk damaging his pretty smile. Instead, she settled for throwing her hood over her head and turning her gaze down for a moment so that she could count to ten before looking back at him.
"Father always has he reasons," she replied nodding. "But...he wasn't allowed to tell me anything related to magic as a child. That was my mother's doing. She...she hates magic...fears it really." She paused for a moment to set her papers and books on the table next to her seat, kicked off her shoes, hugged her knees to her chest, and rested her chin on them. "They refuse to talk about what happened or even why mother is the way she is."
Kurumi's eyes widened when Treyen mentioned her being in Hogsmeade as a second year. Oops. It wasn't like she had hidden under an invisibility cloak or anything. She had just walked out of the castle and heading on over. Really, it was the professor's fault for not catching her, or something. Right? "T-T-That's not important," she winked. "I thought so...but she knew things about father. Mannerisms and personality quirks. And, she told me that father's family hated him. F-For falling for a non-magical woman...my mother." She turned her gaze downwards again for a moment. "The Gaunts are a very prominent pureblood family. Very proud...proud enough to want to kill off one of their own for destroying a bloodline..."
Kurumi's eyes flicked towards the stack of old Daily Prophets, all in the year 2049. It was mostly guess work, but seeing as her mother and father were always saying that Ryunosuke had been born in the same year they were married, so that pointed her to 2049. Her oldest brother had been born in late November, so there were a lot of months to go through.
She smiled when the conversation temporarily shifted back to numbers. "It...it shows how much confidence you have," she squeaked as she stopped biting her lower lip. "Preferring changeable things. Things you may not have any control over." She stopped herself from diving deeper into that train of thought. "Or I could just like numbers too much."
She aimless picked up a Daily Prophet for August of 2049 and skimmed the headlines for anything that may give her a hint. The article about cue tips being used as something non-magical people use to stimulate brain activity made her snort.
Oh, man, it was completely perfect! Treyen wanted to believe that he had something to do with the fact that Kurumi was not crying at the moment, but seriously, he'd be panicking if she started to do so. Girls crying was not entertaining, even worse if it was Kurumi.
He couldn't help to notice every different shade her hair was turning. From magenta to bright pink, to a sheer shade of it. Truth be told, he was concerned, because Kurumi's powers were joined with her emotions, right? So, there was A LOT going on with her, right? Whatever she was thinking about, she needed to stop. Or he needed to stop whatever it was he was doing, if he was causing it, right? The thing is...he couldn't ask. Aactually, he wouldn't. His eyes were still on her, though, monitoring her every move, just in case.
Okay. He got that.
"But...do you really need to know?" like, couldn't she just let it go?
"Whatever their reasons, they probably thought it was the best for you at the time," or the best for them. Probably the best for them, because someone like Kurumi should've grown knowing all about magic.
Something must've happened for her mother not wanting her to know about magic. The little he knows from when his mother was alive, was that she didn't mind magic at all. Awesome Muggle, eh?
Heeey! A wink. That was amusing, and made him smirk. Right. THAT wasn't important. Treyen frowned at her next comment. As unbelievable as it could be, there were still some families that preferred blood purity (or whatever was left of that) over everything.
"Maybe that's why he changed his name, so his family wouldn't go after him," and he wanted to add 'or you', but that would probably freak Kurumi out.
So, Kurumi was actually a Gaunt, eh?
She was clearly the nicest one of them all.
He laughed. Confidence? His confidence seems to disappear whenever he's around Ellie, though. How reliable could such a thing be? But she talked a bit more, and he was reminded of his conversation with Hadley. And his future. And how he wouldn't want to have too many changes in them. It was rather ironic that Kurumi described him as someone different, though.
"I've never really thought of it that way, but you could be right, you may JUST like numbers." And they'd established that he didn't.
He eyed the papers, and set his book aside,
"Give me one edition and tell me what am I supposed to be looking for," because, apparently, he forgot.
