16. Impedimenta
Regulus shot off another curse, listening to Bellatrix laughing madly behind him. Regulus felt his stomach start to churn as he glanced back at the child she was after. It wasn’t right. This wasn’t taking their place or forcing the world to acknowledge them. This was nothing but torturing uselessly. It was terrorism.
Regulus heard a shout, the clamor intensifying in the small apartment building they’d raided. The Order had arrived. Regulus saw James Potter running past him and fought off the need to curse his legs off. A spell flew past, laser red. Regulus turned quickly. “Impedimenta!” Three people came to almost a stop in front of him.
Regulus’ wand lowered as blue eyes met grey. His brother pretended to not notice—to not know who was under that mask. But Regulus had known his brother too long to not notice the color in his eyes shift, his pupils shrink slightly and his lids widen. He finally saw an ‘R’ form on Sirius’ lips just as his own jaw prepared to push out the hiss of an ‘S.’ Without a word, Regulus turned on the spot and disapparated, hearing others do just the same but for completely different reasons.
