 A Child's Impatience
49. Wingardium Leviosa
“Wingardium Leviosa!” Reglulus was practically shouting by now, feeling impatient as he swirled his wand over and over but to no avail. This wasn’t working. Regulus looked around at everyone else. Even some of the Gryffindors had managed to send their feathers soaring in the air.
This would not do. Regulus was a Slytherin and a Black. He would not be the last to make this silly feather fly. He tried again.
“Wingardium Leviosa!”
And again.
“Wingardium LEVIOSA!”
Finally, Regulus gave a sneaky look around before simply letting himself focus on the feather and lashing out. Fly, you stupid thing! Fly! It flew. Regulus grinned happily. There. Finally. It continued to raise to the ceiling.
“Ah-ah-ah, Mr. Black. I know your family’s tendency to show the wandless magic of a child for longer than most, but you can’t rely on your emotions your whole life, can you?” Flitwick squeaked.
Regulus sighed, put out, the feather coming back down. “No, sir.”
“Now try again please. Swish, flick and remember to emphasize correctly.”
Regulus paused, concentrating before swishing, flicking, and proclaiming, “Windardium Leviosa!” Regulus’ grin returned when his wand finally channeled the magic correctly, causing the feather to rise again.
“Good Boy.”
