31. Orchideous
Regulus knocked before waiting anxiously. His hands were folded together tightly in front of him, his knuckles white. He swallowed hard.
“One moment,” was the response. Regulus let out a soft breath, letting himself relish in the familiar tone. It was cool and distant, but so much more pointedly than usual that Regulus could tell it was an effort. He closed his eyes for a moment, feeling the biting wind of winter slough through his cloak and skin.
Finally the door opened. Severus looked paler than usual whereas Regulus looked flushed due to nerves and the wind. Regulus smiled. “Hello, Sev.”
“Regulus.” Severus’s lips rose in the slightest smile as he stepped down off of his porch.
A crash shook the house.
“That’s right, you get out of this house, you filth! You freak!”
Severu’s face fell and he walked noticeably quicker. Silence fell over them as they trudged through the snow, and the nervous but hopeful and excited atmosphere had disappeared. Regulus silently panicked before doing the only thing he could think of. Behind his back, he swirled his wand, mentally intoning Orchideous. He caught the flowers before bringing them forward.
Severus rose a brow. “Really, Black?”
Regulus grinned.
