Risu, a steaming mug of tea in his hand, was staring out into the night. This high up in the Tower, the breeze wafting through the open window already had a tinge of autumn chill to it even though it was still, technically, late summer, but with the tea to warm him up, Risu didn't mind. He had spent many much colder nights at the Array, either wrapped up in blankets in front of a computer or, if the chronically underfunded operation had blown a fuse in one of the radio telescopes, outside, cursing with blue and shivering hands that would not hold a screwdriver properly.
When the knock on the door came, it took him a few seconds to be roused from whatever it was he had been thinking about. He had to clear his throat before being able to speak. "Come in, please. Both of you," he added as he heard a low voice; whoever it was, they apparently had brought someone along.
Maddox heard a voice calling them forward and the other girl seemed to be trying to figure out if she was indeed firing on all cylinders, and Maddox guessed she wasn't, but Maddox opened up the door.
"Good evening." she smiled. Her eyes got big as the sight outside of the window caught her attention.
"What do you have pay for a view like that?" she asked pointing toward the window.
She walked into his office looking around and taking in everything. The mundaness and boring aspect of it made her eyes cross and her head swim. How could someone take something as wonderful as stargazing and turn it into a but of calculations in a book. She shook her head to clear out all the cobwebs and she pulled her telescope out of her David Bowie messenger bag.
"The word in the corridors is a lass needs a piece of paper to get to the Astronomy Tower." she sat down in the chair and almost winced at how uncomfortable it was.
