Van did the opposite. He stopped himself from smiling, though usually he smiled a fair amount, it just didn't feel right to do it right then. He went over to the door and opened it, standing aside so she could head out first.
"Well...yes." But at least he wasn't dead or anything. Isobel had thought that he had been for a long time. So part of her heart was glad that he wasn't dead. But a lot of things had changed between them, and she knew their friendship could never be the same.
This felt a bit awkward again. And Isobel kind of hoped that the awkwardness would get better over time. Turning around, she followed him over to the door, and walking out.
