Welcome, all new students,
And all those who return,
I hope you find some good friends
And some common sense, this term.

My name is The Sorting Hat,
You must have heard of me,
I’m here to give you guidance
And choose your house, you see.

In Gryffindor the brave at heart,
And daring students dwell,
Maybe here is where you’ll be
But only I can tell.

In Slytherin a cunning mind
And confidence is key,
Many greats have been here
And all sorted by me.

In Hufflepuff the loyal friends
And hard workers belong,
Patience, fairness, lasting love -
In this house these are strong.

In Ravenclaw the steady minds
and quick witted will be.
The clever ones with many thoughts.
Their brains are plain to see.

So are you curious, little ones
To see where you belong?
Put me on and I’ll decide
I never have been wrong.

Of all four houses, one of them
Will just be right for you.
Maybe you have one in mind,
But know that I do too.
