I hate that they called the desks and Pettigrew's death juvenile. I really think that underscores the importance of those moments.
The charge to me was a light hearted moment in a situation fraught with terror and tradegy (when it happened in the book, hadn't Fred just died? Forgive me if I'm wrong)
Now due to the pacing of the film, it might not be necessarily, but for the book, it gives the reader a brief respite from the pain. I'm not saying it needs to be in the film, but not for the reason he gave
And Pettigrew, we all know the importance of that. i was rather peeved they didn't include that.
