"Hello," Jared said, grinning at the fact that she had lowered her voice, so as not to disturb his book-reading.

Fifteen or so minutes later, the quill had placed an invisible O next to her name, on the notebook. "Enjoy the rest of the day, Emily," Jared said, gauging the meaning of her rather inquiring look.

It might have seemed as if Jared's attention had been focused on the book throughout Nika's practical but, in actual, he did not miss her nervousness or the fact that, halfway through the exam, she looked ready to be sick.
