Background
James was born and raised in a wizarding village just outside of Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a from a strict pureblood family and was brought up in an environment which suggested that anyone but purebloods were beneath them. He is the middle child of seven.

He attended Durmstrang and was sorted into the equivalent house to Hufflepuff. He passed his exams with results ranging from grades as low as Troll for Transfiguration, and as high as Outstanding for Care of Magical Creatures.

After leaving school at 18, he spent the last two years working on a Hippogriff farm out in the wilds of Bonny Scotland which suited his hermit-esque existence perfectly. Come his 21st birthday he was pressurised into seeking a 'proper, well paid and respectable job' by his father. Reluctantly he applied to the Ministry of Magic and was successful in his application to the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.

Personality
James is a quietly spoken and somewhat intense character. He has a slight stammer and is rather timid in social situations. He can give the impression of being standoffish and snobby but is, in fact, a painfully shy individual. He is gentle, patient and is perceptive.

Despite his rather repressive and closed upbringing, James has a distant fascination with muggles but has yet to visit their world. He dresses in what he thinks muggles wear and the results are often eccentric. He loves colour and wears eclectic clothes that clash and colours his hair to suit his mood. He is creative and can play a whole wealth of instruments from the ukulele to the flute to the piano. He is extremely aware of his surroundings which he takes in quietly and contemplatively.
