And he had an unbelievable amount of trust in Neptune. He trusted that she'd tell him if she wasn't comfortable with him anymore, or something like that. The young man brought his hand to the side of Neptune's face and held it gently. "C'mon. Let's keep walking."
Neptune fixed Jake's shirt back and leaned her cheek against his hand. She wasn't sure WHAT he understood, especially since she was constantly confused, but she was glad he did. And she smiled, too, for the first time since all the crazy started.
"You know what I don't understand?" She twirled herself under his arm and veeeery gently attached herself to his side with the least bruises. "Why ... why Marie was ... she was awful," Neptune finished in a whisper. She had NEVER said ANYTHING bad about Jim's girlfriend before. Oddly enough, she still felt guilty about saying anything even now, but ... it was safe to tell Jake. She was sure of that. Neptune kept close to Jake's side as they waited for the staircase to come back around to them. |
