As she saw Kurumi frown, Renée glanced at Anastasia for a moment. Either to calm herself and her thoughts or just to keep up the strength to avoid trying to figure out what exactly was going through the student's head was unclear, but whatever reasons, it worked. She still wanted to know, wanted the Gryffindor to feel more at ease with whatever had brought her to the office, but she wasn't going to pry. Something was obviously bothering the girl, and with a bit of amusement, she thought that the fact they'd started off under wrong assumptions had nothing to do with it.

That was verified when she heard Kurumi speak again, and she sent the girl a sympathetic and encouraging smile. "I understand," she replied. "I wish you wouldn't have had to see yourself as an outcast, but I can also truly say that I bet if you talked to anyone here, they'd say they felt different at one time or another. Even those who might bully others." Of course, her sense of difference had come from her ability, her interests, and not the least the fact that she was neither American nor English but something in between. Which seemed a little like what the Gryffindor had mentioned. Moving toward the chairs after a moment, she sent another smile as she regained Kurumi's gaze. "You have friends here, right? That automatically puts you at an advantage. And honestly, anyone who would try to bully you simply doesn't know what they're missing by not trying to get to know you."
