"I'd like to add, that's within reason," Issy chuckled as she turned around to face the kids again. "Yes, Covadium changes an everyday object, whatever you like...in our case rubbish," she said, gesturing to the bags by her desk. "into something else of use. Something that means we could reuse the rubbish. A version of recycling if you will."
Picking up one of the bags, she moved around the classroom placing two pieces of rubbish on each desk - a plastic bottle and a chocolate frog box. An empty one. Boo. "You all know the incantation, and in a moment I will show you the wand movement. But first I would like you to look at the items I have given you, and decide what you want it to become. Bearing in mind that it is easier to transfigure objects that are similar - so don't try and be too complicated on your first go."
Moving back to her desk, Issy picked her own bottle up and placed it back in a position they could all see. "Now watch closely... you need to do a swish to the left, then gently tap the item, while saying the spell...Co- vah- dium" Isabelle did just that, saying the spell and completing the wand movement. With a little poof her bottle became a fancy carved plastic glass, ready for her to put her firewhiskey into. Although not in class.
Beaming, she looked up at them. "First please recite the spell on it's own, then practice the wand movement without the spell, then by all means try everything together. Just be careful. And concentrate hard. I have more bottles and boxes for you to use for now as well, until we move onto the reversion spell, so just come get another to keep practising."
Rowan listened as the professor explained what the spell did and how to do it, paying close attention to her wand movement.
Okay, she thought to herself.
Let's do this. She bent down and picked up an aluminum can that had been particularly bothering her and placed it on the desk. She whispered the spell a couple of times to make sure that she pronounced it correctly. Then moving her wand exactly as the professor had she said "
Co-vah-dium!" To her surprise the can actually turned into a wonderful teddy bear in Slytherin colors.
Perfect, she thought.
I know exactly who to give this to. She couldn't contain the grin that spread across her face. It was the first time she had succeeded with a transfiguration.
