Not wanting to be around them in such a tense atmosphere, the seventh year decided to take his own irritation and squash it through a good, hard, hearty session of studying.

Nearly tossing his bag onto a table near one of the empty arm chairs, he sat down and nearly ripped his belongings from his bag, an eagle feather quill falling quickly to the floor in swift surrender. Picking it up and placing it back in its rightful spot, the blonde perused the titles that he had taken from his dormitory and brought with him. It was just his luck that he had brought two of the thickest, horrid books that he had ever encountered: Unfogging the Future by Cassandra Vablatsky Encyclopedia of Toadstools, the letters that spelled out the author's name having withered from the textbook's cover with age. Deus could have thrown both of the books into the nearby fireplaces, having always despised the nilly-willy subject of Divination and never taken a liking to the intricacies of Herbology.

Sucking up his pride, he moved Vablatsky's brick of a book to the side and flipped open the other book to the first page, sighing as he attempted to immerse himself in the dense work. It would be the only way to relieve his annoyance at the lack-luster practice of the team earlier in the day. It was a few moments before his blue eyes began to wander about the nearly empty lounge, eventually falling on a fellow seventh year. The brows of the perturbed Ravenclaw knit together; why, in Merlin's name, was this day a cursed day for Amadeus Kipling? First practice, then the books, now the bloody captain of the Hufflepuff team, who were to be playing (and it was rumored, bashing into a pulp) Ravenclaw in a mere few weeks?

He had never spoken to her, nor she to him, but Amadeus had heard of her from his captain, Jacob Blunt. Maybe now would be the time to let her know that Ravenclaw was ready to fight the 'puff team tooth and nail for the quidditch cup, which the badgers had snatched up numerous times in recent years. Taking the plunge, he spoke up, knowing that his words word be audible at the armchair she was perched at a mere few feet away. "I hope you pay attention to the quaffle more than you're paying attention to that book," The Ravenclaw commented, a slight bite in his words.
Still poised in the armchair, hidden behind her thick old Herbology textbook, Melanie lifted her eyes. The dark green orbs landed on the Ravenclaw's unfamiliar face as he entered the Library... She didn't know him, but she knew who he was... in a totally roundabout way. All she knew about the other seventh year was that he was a player on the Ravenclaw team and that, in the last match, he'd been a beater. That, and, now that she was looking at him, the fact that he was rather handsome. Eh... That really wasn't important, though.

As she realized she was effectively distracting herself, Melanie went back to staring at the words in her textbook, and trying to concentrate. Failing to concentrate, actually, would be a more accurate phrase. For now she had quidditch on her mind and, really, how was she to concentrate on constellations and meteors and... other Astronomy stuff, when Quidditch was on her mind? And how in the name of Merlin was she supposed to get Quidditch off her mind when a Ravenclaw player was sitting mere feet away? Perhaps it was a sign she should go work on plays in the common room, instead of studying. Melanie would certainly rather be working on plays.

Unfortunately, the Ravenclaw boy addressed her just as the idea to leave crossed her mind. Melanie lowered her book to STARE at the 'claw, a question mark in her head. She couldn't help but wonder what his intentions were, after all. She didn't like that tone one bit. "I do." she replied coldly, shrugging it off. It was true enough. Lately she'd been spending much more time with the quaffle, and with the Hufflepuff team, than with any of her textbooks. "Not entirely sure why you would hope that, though, seeing as you're on the Ravenclaw team..." she trailed off, her eyebrows raised skeptically, as if daring him to say more.

Whatever he meant by the comment, it couldn't be very pleasant. Honestly, she was more curious to hear what he was getting to, than anything.
