Lip reading. That was how he was doing it.

Suddenly she wasn't sure what to say. Saying she was sorry just didn't seem appropriate - she knew she didn't like to hear it - yet that was the only thing she could think of.

"I'm so sorry to..." hear that. Fortunately she'd stopped herself before she'd actually finished that sentence. How awful would it be if she'd said that?
